Book in late summer for the best dates. Holiday lighting bookings open through August and September in Houston. By mid-October the popular slots — the weekends either side of Thanksgiving in particular — are usually gone.
Installs run from early November. Most Houston installs happen from the first week of November onward, which lets everything be tested and timed well before Thanksgiving. Installing earlier is perfectly fine; the lights simply sit on a timer until you want them on.
Why waiting costs you. Late bookings get whatever dates remain, which in practice means December. It also means less flexibility if weather pushes the schedule, and by then most installers have committed their material orders for the season.
What a professional install should include. Commercial-grade lamps custom-cut to your roofline rather than retail strings, installation, timer setup, service call-outs through the season if a run fails, and takedown in January. Storage of your runs for the following year is often offered as well.
Returning customers usually get first refusal. Most companies, us included, offer existing customers their previous slot before opening the calendar. If you liked your date last year, confirm it early.
The alternative worth considering. If you want lights every single year without the annual booking scramble, permanent roofline lighting is installed once and stays. It costs more up front and then costs nothing each season — and it doubles as everyday warm white lighting and team colours on game day.
